Kate Carey

Head of Education

Kate Carey joined the McNay education department in 2004. Promoted to Head of Education in 2017, Carey serves on the Museum leadership team and oversees McNay docents (volunteers who give school tours) and education programs (virtual and in-person). Carey exercised a co-curator role in exhibitions American Dreams: Classic Cars and Postwar Paintings (2019), Fashion Nirvana: Runway to Everyday (2020), and Selena Forever/Siempre Selena (2020-2021). A San Antonio food ambassador, Carey enjoys sharing food and drinks with McNay colleagues and friends at Barbaro, Extra Fine, and Hot Joy, restaurants her family owns, and spending time with her two daughters. A favorite work of art in the McNay Collection is Chakaia Booker’s sculpture Position Preferred because the whole thing is made from rubber. Visitors can see the tire tread and smell the unmistakable rubbery scent (without getting too close, of course).
