“The kids enjoyed their docent tour immensely, and every one of them found some work of art to get excited about!”

Middle School Teacher

In 1964, a group of eight Junior League volunteers led by Marcia Gygli King and Peggy Pitman Mays offered tours of the McNay for student groups. Fifty years and thousands of tours later, the Docent Council numbers well over a hundred members and continues to provide opportunities for the public, particularly school groups, to enjoy and find meaning in works of art in the collection and special exhibitions.

The Docent program is generously funded by the Peggy Pitman Mays Docent Fund.

Due to a maintenance issue, the museum will close at 5 p.m. today. Tonight’s Gallery Talk will be rescheduled for a later date. We will return to regular hours tomorrow.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to welcoming you soon.
