This painting, perhaps a study for a sculpture, depicts a curious creature—part human, part duck, part machine—marching at what feels like a very quick pace. John Storrs’ body of work reflects influences from music, architecture, and industry. Although he was a student of realist sculptor Auguste Rodin, Storrs’ unique perspective revealed a new style—now known as Art Deco. In his three-dimensional sculptures and two-dimensional artworks, Storrs combines organic forms with mechanical characteristics, creating anthropomorphic oddities.
