About the Print:
In El Sueño del Pez, Irma Guerrero draws on surrealist concepts to explore an unfamiliar, dreamlike world. This etching presents scenes that orbit a fish, suggesting fragments of its subconscious and offering a glimpse into a realm beyond ordinary perception. By distancing the viewer from the mundane, Guerrero invites attention to what is often unseen or overlooked.
Irma Guerrero was born in Oaxaca in 1956 and began studying plastic arts at the Benito Juárez Autonomous University at the age of fifteen. She later participated in the movement to establish the Rufino Tamayo Plastic Arts Workshop, where she studied engraving under Juan Alcázar.
