The McNay Contemporaries (MC) helps grow the Museum's contemporary art collection and strengthens connections between the McNay and San Antonio's vibrant art community. Members enjoy learning about art and art collecting with René Paul Barilleaux, Head of Curatorial Affairs, and their membership benefits include exclusive viewings of exhibitions and private art collections, visits to artists' studios, and distinctive educational presentations with critics, curators, and art historians.
Most notably, the McNay Contemporaries plays a critical role in the acquisition of new works of art for the Museum. Membership dues fund the purchase of new works of art, and each fall the McNay Contemporaries hosts an annual fundraising event that directly supports the McNay’s art acquisition fund. Furthermore, Members enjoy the unique privilege of collectively selecting acquisitions for the McNay's permanent collection through a View & Vote event each year.
In addition to directly supporting the McNay’s acquisition of new works of art, the McNay Contemporaries initiated the Artists Looking at Art series, which features two artists each year and displays their work in the Museum.
