Janet and Joe Westheimer have been collecting American prints for more than 30 years. Their collection has grown in tandem with the McNay’s and includes great American images by some of the luminaries of early twentieth-century American art, including George Bellows, John Sloan, Mabel Dwight, and Isabel Bishop. An important component of this exhibition, featuring approximately 40 works, is a number of prints depicting the art of people looking at art, whether in a museum or private gallery. This group is a witty look at the interaction between people and art, as well as a glimpse into the serious and sometimes comical world of art connoisseurship.
This exhibition is organized by the McNay Art Museum
