The Studio is a multiuse, interactive space where visitors can relax, recharge, and engage with a variety of artwork and activities while learning about the permanent collection. Each year, the Studio features two temporary installations of artwork by regional artists who collaborate with McNay educators to create a series of community workshops based on their studio practice.

Artist Verónica Castillo is part of a heartfelt generational lineage of ceramic artists from Izúcar de Matamoros, Puebla, México who collectively construct traditional Arbol de la Vida clay sculptures that document the legacies from one generation to the next. Castillo has created her own style from that of her ancestry and her installation at the McNay, En Raizada en Cuatro Generaciones (Rooted in Four Generations) shows a timeline of sculptures from her great-grandparents, her grandparents, her mother and father, and herself.

Funding for the Studio exhibition space was made possible by the Greehey Family Foundation, Bank of America, and the Smothers-Bruni Foundation.
