Plants have a wonderful way of responding to their environment. My work draws our attention to the atmosphere around us. As plants move, they reveal the invisible currents of the air.

Since 2011, Spotlight has shined a light on the incredible talent of student artists responding to a single work in the McNay’s collection. This year, 489 students from 26 San Antonio-area schools created works in various media reflecting on Los Angeles-based new media artist Jennifer Steinkamp’s video, Botanic 3, on view in the Octagon. This past May, the McNay held its annual Spotlight Celebration showcasing all student artwork, which will be presented in a series of exhibitions throughout the year.
