Repeated forms, lines, and motifs found in Jimena Marin’s paintings and drawings represent her interest in the physical practice of art-making and the mental exercise it requires. Marin’s works can be seen as visual diaries, where the shapes and colors act as a shorthand for her thoughts. Her current series on view at the McNay documents time spent in the kitchen, and rethinking traditional dishes with a contemporary aesthetic.
Join us for a conversation about Marin's work with the artist and Chief Curator/Curator of Contemporary Art, René Paul Barilleaux.
The ALA series salutes the vitality of the contemporary art community in the San Antonio area. Four artists are featured annually, each offering his or her perspective on current work and studio practice. The McNay Contemporary Collectors Forum (MCCF) initiated the Artists Looking at Art series and jointly sponsors it with the McNay's education department.
Reception begins at 6:00 pm, lecture to follow at 6:30 pm.
