Join us for The Art of Tasting: Mezcal and Wine of Mexico on Friday, May 17, 2024. This inaugural event celebrates themes from our spring banner exhibition de la Torre Brothers: Upward Mobility. This exhibition presents works that explore culture on both sides of the United States-Mexico border and highlights a maximalist aesthetic through four galleries of glass sculpture, lenticular prints, video, and installations. Experience the unique viniculture, mixology, and cuisine of the region.

Guests will sample wines from Mexico curated by Salena Guipzot of Casa Guipzot. Salena highlights the legacy of colonial vintners in the Americas. Ana Laura Bravo with Bruxo Mezcal and Blasfemus agave spirits will curate specialty cocktails made with their agave spirit produced in South Texas and artisanal mezcal from Mexico. Local chef, Johnny Hernandez’s team will complement these libations with flavors from the area. The evening promises to be a multi-sensory experience as you and your guests are immersed in the exhibition and the cultures it represents. René Paul Barilleaux, Head of Curatorial Affairs, Lauren Thompson, Curator of Exhibitions, and Mia Lopez, Curator of Latinx Art will be available to answer questions about the exhibition.

This inaugural event will include a one-hour mezcal tasting for sponsors and VIP ticket holders from 7 – 8 p.m. General admission ticket holders will join in at 8 p.m. for light bites, cocktails, wine, and music until 10 p.m. View the tasting menu here.
