Studio After Hours is a 5-part series held on select Thursday evenings from 6:00–8:00 pm in the Learning Centers: July 2, August 13, December 10, February 11, and June 10.
On these evenings, we’ll host an open studio where guests are invited to bring their own projects or start something new using materials provided by the McNay. Think of it as creative parallel play — even when working on individual projects, creating together in a communal space encourages productivity and the embrace of fresh perspectives.
A local guest artist will join each session to offer inspiration and share expertise.
Our July 2 session features guest artist Angela Fox, whose work is on long term loan in the Hamon 3 gallery. Her practice — which incorporates gouache, color blocking, and symbolism — is sure to spark inspiration for your own creative exploration.
Evening Program
6:00–6:15 | Studio Talk The guest artist shares a brief introduction to themselves and their practice.
6:15–7:30 | Open Studio Guests work on their own projects using provided materials or items brought from home. Feel free to explore techniques introduced by the guest artist or follow your own creative instincts. Collaboration and conversation are encouraged. Refreshments will be served.
7:30–8:00 | Studio Share A low-stakes, casual critique where guests can invite feedback from the guest artist and fellow attendees.
All materials will be provided, including acrylic paint, gouache, oil pastels, drawing pencils, charcoal, and drawing paper. Guests are welcome to bring their own supplies, though we ask that you stick to dry media — we want to keep the galleries safe and mess-free!
