Performance Art Workshop and Critique

Saturday, March 23, 2019

10:00 am – 12:00 pm

In anticipation of the McNay’s upcoming exhibition Transamerica/n: Gender, Identity, Appearance Today, the Museum is hosting an open-call performance art workshop and critique. Artists from the region are invited to present new or existing works that deal with gender and identity. Some artists may be invited to perform during the presentation of Transamerica/n (June 20 – September 15), either in the exhibition galleries or for a public program. There is no application requirement or fee to participate; however, performers must sign up in advance. A McNay panel will offer verbal feedback immediately following each performance. Please see below for details.

  • Performances may be complete works or excerpts of longer works but must be 10 minutes or less in duration.
  • Any set-up or breakdown is limited to 1 minute before and after the performance.
  • The number of performers may be 1 to 5.
  • There are no lighting or other technical capabilities; for performances requiring audio the presenter must provide a portable device.
  • McNay public Wi-Fi is available in the performance space.
  • Immediately following performances a McNay panel will offer verbal feedback.
  • Only McNay staff and workshop participants are allowed in the performance space; this event is not open to the general public.
