Dr. Donald Olson, Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Physics at Texas State University, meticulously researches the celestial subjects captured by Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, and now Georgia O’Keeffe. In his third book on the intersections of art and astronomy, Olson calculates exact times and locations of historic sunrises, moonrises, and phenomena of the night sky. This dynamic lecture includes discussion of O’Keeffe’s scenes from New York to Canyon, Texas, notably her watercolor, Evening Star V, a masterpiece of the McNay’s Collection.

This lecture is a program of the exhibition Georgia O’Keeffe and American Modernism on view through May 8, 2022.

Teachers receive 1 hour of CPE. Registration required for this free lecture. Contact education@mcnayart.org or call 210.805.1768 with questions.
