Shortly after World War II, engineer Preston Tucker (Jeff Bridges) designs and produces “the car of tomorrow.” The Tucker Torpedo features revolutionary safety enhancements including seat belts, a third headlight, and pop-out windshields. Strong opposition from the Big Three auto manufacturers in Detroit threatens Tucker’s innovation. Many have drawn comparisons between Preston Tucker, the car-maker, and Francis Ford Coppola, the filmmaker.
