Through textile and experimental weaving techniques, Jenelle Esparza communicates powerful messages by isolating cotton fiber as a symbol of labor, land, and legacy. Esparza discusses her work and research on South Texas histories in a conversation with René Paul Barilleaux, Head of Curatorial Affairs. A brief weaving lesson with Rene completes the experience.

Jenelle Esparza is a South Texas native originally from Corpus Christi, Texas. A multi-media artist with interdisciplinary practices that include installations in fiber, photography, and sculpture, she is co-owner of Presa House Gallery and was an Artpace resident (summer 2018). Esparza has exhibited nationally, and currently works as a Museum Educator of Family Programs at the McNay.

The Artists Looking at Art series features contemporary San Antonio area artists, including McNay artists and staff members.
