Art Films: Andy Warhol and Kalup Linzy

Thursday, September 5, 2019

6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

In the short span of five years, from 1963 through 1968, Warhol produced nearly 650 films, including hundreds of silent Screen Tests and dozens of full-length movies. Warhol’s films have been highly regarded for their radical explorations beyond the frontiers of conventional cinema.

Kalup Linzy’s theatrical works challenge ideas of gender while embracing and taking inspiration from a wide range of pop cultural forms such as black and white movies, soap operas, drag performances, and Def Comedy Jam of the 1990s.

Keys To Our Heart,
Kalup Linzy (2008)

Both tender and outrageous, Keys to Our Heart focuses on failed relationships and emotional vulnerability, a frequent subject of Linzy’s work. The central character of Keys To Our Heart is a jaded, middle-aged woman, played by Linzy, who dispenses advice on love and relationships to three individuals in the midst of a love triangle.
