Costume designer Montana Levi Blanco’s star is on the rise. In a candid conversation about big dreams and budget realities, Blanco balances his love of the craft with the structural inequities commonly accepted and works to create a more supportive community for designers. Most recently Blanco designed costumes for A Strange Loop and The Skin of Our Teeth both opening on Broadway in April, 2022.

Montana Levi Blanco is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Prior to attending Yale School of Drama for costume design, Blanco was the Robert L. Tobin Curatorial Intern at the McNay. His design credits include The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World AKA The Negro Book of the Dead (2016), The House that Will Not Stand (2018); and Ain’t No Mo (2019). Blanco’s designs are also featured in the upcoming theatre arts exhibition The Great Stage of Texas opening on March 3.

This conversation is a program of The Tobin Theatre Arts Fund.
