Around the Museum: Pro Tips For a Fun Second Thursday

Tell your friends and family.

A part of the fun of Second Thursdays is spending it with your friends and family!

Plan ahead.

Think about carpooling! Parking is limited on the McNay grounds, but we offer a wonderful new shuttle service from the Sunset Ridge Church parking lot, on the corner of Brees and Emporia, to the McNay! If you take the free shuttle, be sure to meet at the drop off/pick up area by 9:00 pm to ensure your ride back to the parking lot!

Keep it cool.

Evenings in the summer remain hot until the sun goes down, so stay hydrated! Make sure your friends and family stay hydrated, too!

Pets on a leash are welcome.

We love our animals, and we know you do too! That’s why we allow our four-legged friends to join us on Second Thursdays. Some tips on keeping everyone happy – keep them hydrated, scoop up their poop, and make sure they remain on a leash at all times.

Don’t rush it.

Each Second Thursday, we offer two beer tickets to guests 21+ courtesy of Crispin Ciders. How awesome is that? But all good things must be savored, so slow down and enjoy your brew. We ask that each guest redeem one ticket at a time to ensure a safe and happy environment.

Stuff happens.

Sometimes lines are long and we run out of beer. Sometimes the food trucks sell out. Sometimes it rains. Make sure to discuss a game plan with your family and friends before arriving. Hint, if you arrive early, the likelihood of having all of the choices at your disposal is much greater.

See some art.

Make sure to see some art while you are here. One of the greatest features of the evening is that the ENTIRE museum is open for free starting at 4:00 pm, so arrive early and catch an eye-full. Be sure to view the feature exhibition and take one of the docent-led tours. We promise you will not regret it!

Enjoy the “free”dom.

Keep in mind that Second Thursday are FREE with food to purchase from local food trucks. That’s pretty amazing! There is nothing to lose, even if you just stay for 15 minutes.
