Student Group Visits
Educators must bring one (1) adult chaperone for every ten (10) students under 18 years of age, whether the group is docent-led or self-conducted.
Docent-led Tours
McNay docents are knowledgeable tour guides eager to lead student group tours of the McNay collection or exhibitions. All docent-led student tours are free. In addition, the McNay has a bus fund to assist with transportation costs for students coming for a docent-led tour. Teachers must specifically request use of the bus fund and then arrange transportation using district or school buses.
Student tours are offered TuesdayFriday, 9:30, 10:30, or 11:30 am; Thursday, 10:30 and 11:30 am. Other times are available on special request.
Self-conducted Student Group Visits
Instructors may also bring groups on a self-conducted basis, but must schedule self-conducted visits of 20 or more students to avoid museum overcrowding. Call 210.824.5368 to request a date and time for the visit. In addition, please read Gallery Rules for Teaching & Presenting at the McNay.
To request a student group visit, whether docent-led or self-conducted, complete Student Group Visit Request Form.
Preparing Students
You may wish to prepare students for their visit by borrowing resources from the McNay’s Teacher Resource Center for Visual Art.
In addition, to insure that students comply with standard rules of behavior in art museums, please show them the video Marion Koogler McNay and the Founding of the McNay Art Museum to review museum rules and give them background on the McNay.
