Real/Surreal: Selections from the Whitney Museum of American Art February 13 | May 19
Real/Surreal, focuses on the tension and overlap between two strong currents in twentieth–century American art: realism and Surrealism. The exhibition features over 70 paintings, drawings, photographs, and prints that reveal how artists—depending on intention and influence—developed degrees of reality in which imagination held more or less sway.
Drawn primarily for the Whitney Museum’s landmark collection, this is a special opportunity for San Antonians to see many iconic works of American art. Real/Surreal, includes works by notable artists Charles Burchfield, Paul Cadmus, Federico Castellón, Francis Criss, Joseph Cornell, Philip Guston, Edward Hopper, Man Ray, Kay Sage, Ben Shahn, Charles Sheeler, Yves Tanguy, Pavel Tchelitchew, George Tooker, and Andrew Wyeth, among others.
We know that you will be as delighted about this exhibition as we are. We hope that you will join us in bringing this remarkable collection to San Antonio and supporting its presentation at the McNay.
