McNay Art Museum Offers Great Opportunities for Teens
On Friday, March 30, the McNay hosts the annual Free Teen Night: Art After Dark.
This year, from 7:00 to 10:00 pm, teens arrive to the museum after hours for an Andy Warhol-themed evening. Students bring their own Campbell's soup can for admission to music, food, and art activities. Activities include a photo booth, making a screenprint, and creating a collaborative Pop art sculpture. Actor Gloria Sanchez performs her
one-woman show 15 Minutes...and Then Some. Space is limited. For reservations,

. Registration deadline is March 29.
The McNay is also currently taking applications for Teen Art Guides (TAGs) for the 2012-2013 school year. TAGs assist with programs for families, teachers and teens; help with media and technology programs; and encourage other teens and families to talk about art. To be a TAG, students must be a current sophomore or junior in the San Antonio area; sign a pledge of commitment to program and policies; have reliable transportation to and from the McNay; maintain at least a B average in school; and agree to work with the staff, families, and works of art. Media, technology, and Spanish language skills a plus.
Benefits of the TAG program at the McNay include a mentored experience in a museum setting, training for starting conversations about art, information about works of art at the McNay, and documentation of community service hours. Students must arrive early to all training sessions (6 summer, 3 fall, and 3 spring); commit to spending at least ten hours a month on Saturday, Sunday, or Thursday nights at the museum; and spend time facilitating teen events, such as this year's Free Teen Night: Art After Dark.
