Paul Villinski: Burst

August 7, 2014 to July 26, 2015

Third in a series of temporary wall works for the McNay, Burst was adapted by New York artist Paul Villinski for the museum’s AT&T Lobby. Made of various LP records from Villinski’s personal collection, it consists of three-dimensional images of birds, a motif the artist is known for and which has been prominent in his work for several years. His first bird sculptures were created after Hurricane Katrina, when he salvaged warped and abandoned record albums in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans. Villinski has created site-specific installations in cities across the United States.
