Thursday, February 15, 2018 - 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM
In a collaboration of the McNay and The Playhouse in honor of Black History Month, David Casteal offers a powerful performance as York, an enslaved man on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Blending first-person narration with both African drumming and traditional Native American drum recordings, this performance recognizes York’s challenges and accomplishments. Not until 2001, 200 years after the expedition, was York recognized as a member of the Corps of Discovery and awarded the rank of Honorary Sergeant.
